NRDC Action Fund endorses Ted Strickland for Senate

TedstricklandFormer Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland has won the endorsement of the NRDC Action Fund as the group works this year to build a pro-environment majority in the U.S. Senate. Strickland is seeking the seat now held by Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH).

“Ted Strickland will fight to protect the environment from big polluters. Unfortunately, Senator Portman appears to be taking orders from them,” said Kevin Curtis, executive director of the NRDC Action Fund. “Ohio families deserve a senator who will be a reliable champion for clean air and clean water. Senator Portman’s shifting views on climate change and repeated votes to gut bedrock environmental protections have disappointed Ohioans who want a healthier future for their families.”

“I’m honored to be endorsed by this group that shares my strong commitment to creating the next generation of clean energy jobs, tackling the challenge of climate change, and protecting the environment so future generations of Ohioans always have clean air and clean water. As governor I was proud to put in place the most ambitious renewable and advanced energy standards in Ohio’s history — helping to stimulate our economy, saving Ohioans over $1 billion on their energy bills, and tackling the challenge of catastrophic climate change. When it comes to energy policy, the difference between Senator Portman and myself is very clear– I’m fighting for working people, while he prioritizes big polluters, well-connected insiders and wealthy special interests that he serves,” Strickland said.

While governor of Ohio, Strickland established an ambitious renewable energy standard that led to thousands of manufacturing jobs. “As Senator, I will continue my efforts to build a clean energy economy and position our communities to benefit from all this new economy will bring—more jobs, lower electricity rates, and better public health,” Strickland said.
