Hillary Clinton for President

Hillary Clinton for President

25768156183_8db04037f9_kIn 160 days, voters will face a choice between two major party nominees in the 2016 U.S. presidential contest: Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.

Only one of those candidates wants to build a future powered by a clean energy economy. Only one of those candidates will make America a leader in the global fight against climate change. And only one of those candidates will work to ensure that every child and every family in America has clean water to drink, clean air to breathe, and a safe and healthy place to live.

That candidate is Hillary Clinton, and that’s why – for the first time – the NRDC Action Fund is stepping up now to endorse Secretary Clinton for President of the United States.

Hillary Clinton understands the environmental challenges America faces, and her approach to solving them is grounded in the possibility and promise our democracy affords us.

She knows that polluted air and unsafe drinking water are far greater burdens on poor communities and communities of color in America, and like us, she believes these communities deserve justice. The NRDC Action Fund will stand with her as she works to prevent crises like the one in Flint, MI, that has left the people of that community without safe drinking water for more than two years.

She understands the enormous potential of the growing clean energy economy, which has already created millions of jobs and is helping end our addiction to fossil fuels. We will fight with her to expand access to renewable energy from the sun and wind, and put Americans to work transforming our country.

She has the deep knowledge and diplomatic skills to fight for our kids’ future, preserve America’s leadership role in the Paris Climate Agreement and build upon that global framework to fight climate change. We will work with her to honor and implement that historic accord to preserve our planet for future generations.

Americans expect our president to enforce laws that protect our environment, not weaken them. We expect our president to fight for clean air, safe water and a healthier planet for all, not embrace and promote the agenda of big polluters.

If he wins, Donald Trump’s plan for his first 100 days would take us back 100 years. His nomination by the Republican Party puts one of the most anti-environment presidential candidates in history a step closer to the Oval Office. He proved that recently during a disastrous speech outlining his energy and environmental policies, when he promised he would renege on the Paris Climate Agreement, abandon pollution limits on coal-burning power plants and ease up on polluters who threaten America’s rivers and lakes. He’d continue subsidies for dirty fossil fuels and open up for more drilling vast tracts of unspoiled lands and oceans.

The NRDC Action Fund wants a president who will not only fight for all the environmental progress we have made, but for all the environmental progress we need. We have 160 days to make that happen,

The future is at stake. And that’s why we’re with her.

Rhea Suh is president of the NRDC Action Fund.
