WASHINGTON (September 24, 2024) – President Biden will highlight the need for global climate action in a speech on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly later today.
Manish Bapna, president of the NRDC Action Fund, made the following statement in advance of the address:
“Joe Biden delivered the strongest U.S. climate action ever. He positioned the United States to lead by example in the must-win global fight of our time. There’s more work to do to make sure the United States meets its 2030 climate goals. Biden, though, has taken the country forward in a way that’s driving investment, creating jobs and making the country more energy secure. And he is asking other countries to take action today.
“Vice President Harris has been with him every step of the way. She cast the deciding vote to pass the 2022 climate and clean energy law. She helped rally nearly 200 nations around the 2023 pledge to triple renewable power and double energy efficiency by 2030, as part of a global shift away from fossil fuels. She’s ready to build on those gains and raise climate ambition even higher from day one as president.
“Her opponent has vowed to slam climate progress into reverse as payback to billionaire oil and gas donors. As president, Trump pulled the United States out of the Paris climate agreement, broke our promise to the rest of the world and left our children to pay the price. We’re not going back.”
