President Biden’s Climate Grand Slam

President Biden’s Climate Grand Slam

WASHINGTON (April 25, 2024) – President Biden’s administration released new pollution standards for power plants today, capping off a historic set of actions to address the climate crisis.

Following the passage of the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act, which set off a clean energy manufacturing renaissance in the nation, the administration has followed with the crucial standards to reduce methane leaks from oil and gas drilling, tailpipe emissions from cars and trucks, and now carbon emissions from power plants.

As a result of these actions, President Biden has put us on course for unprecedented reductions in greenhouse gas emissions: The U.S. is on track to cut greenhouse gas emissions by more than 40 percent by 2030 from their peak three decades ago, a scale of reductions unfathomable just a few years ago.

The following is a statement from Manish Bapna, president of the NRDC Action Fund:

“President Biden has been the strongest climate leader in U.S. history, and today’s announcement is yet another reminder of what’s at stake in November’s election.

“Biden inherited a climate policy rent to ruin by Donald Trump, a reckless science denier whose fealty to fossil fuels set the country back years in the existential fight of our time. Biden responded by delivering a clear-eyed strategic package of incentives and standards that have transformed the nation from a climate laggard to a global leader in the do-or-die mission to leave our children a livable world.

“There’s still much more to do, and Biden has earned a second term to advance the work he’s begun.”
