Voters Reject Youngkin’s Agenda, Return Democrats to Power

WASHINGTON (November 7, 2023) – Voters have returned Democrats to power in the Senate of Virginia, rejecting Republican candidates who would have given Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) the majority he needed to enact his legislative agenda, including rolling back clean energy and clean cars legislation passed just a few years ago.

Kevin S. Curtis, executive director of the NRDC Action Fund, issued the following statement:

“We’re proud that Virginia voters turned out and stood up to protect common-sense policies that are cleaning up our air and water, growing jobs and helping to fight climate change. Gov. Youngkin should join us in working to make Virginia a national leader in the growing clean energy economy rather than trying to take the commonwealth backward.”

Throughout this election season in Virginia, the NRDC Action Fund:

  • Endorsed 8 pro-environment candidates for the House of Delegates and Senate;
  • Contributed and helped raise more than $250,000 for pro-environment candidates;
  • Made more than 100,000 voter contacts via text, letters and canvassing.
