SACRAMENTO (April 29, 2021) – The campaign to force a statewide vote on whether to recall Gov. Gavin Newsom ends the signature verification phase today and appears to have the required number of valid signatures to proceed. The NRDC Action Fund, along with a coalition of other environmental groups active in California, previously announced that it opposes the recall effort.
The following is a statement from Victoria Rome, the NRDC Action Fund’s chief California advocate:
“The right-wing organizers behind this recall campaign are well known to those of us who work in progressive advocacy in California. They’re the same obstructionists trying to block the climate solutions people are demanding. The same ones who are anti-immigrant and anti-choice. The same ones who object to holding police accountable. We’ve defeated them numerous times in the past because they are so clearly out of step with California’s values, and we will fight like hell to beat them again.”
