WASHINGTON (December 15, 2023) – The NRDC Action Fund, a national environmental organization, today thanked Democratic leaders for holding the line against House Republicans’ extreme anti-environment provisions in the National Defense Authorization Act. The NDAA reached final passage today and is headed to President Biden for his signature.
In a near party-line vote this past summer, House Republicans broke with longstanding tradition and passed a version of the bill laden with controversial amendments, including one directing America’s military leaders to ignore climate change in their planning.
“The House-passed NDAA would have tied the hands of Pentagon leaders who need to understand and plan for how climate change will affect the nation’s security,” said Katie Hobbs, a senior adviser to the NRDC Action Fund. “We congratulate Leader Schumer, Leader Jeffries, Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Reed and House Armed Services Committee Ranking Member Smith for standing up for common sense and standing firm against extreme policy riders that ignore reality and put politics over science.”
