NRDC Action Fund: Biden Picks Proven Leader and Seasoned Fighter in Harris

WASHINGTON (August 11, 2020) –Joe Biden today announced he has chosen Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) to be his running mate, making her the first woman of color to join a major party presidential ticket.

Gina McCarthy, president and CEO of the NRDC Action Fund, issued the following statement:

Joe Biden knows better than anybody what it takes to be a strong vice president. In Kamala Harris, he’s picked a proven leader and seasoned fighter with a fresh voice. Together, they will unite the country and restore competence and integrity to the White House. That’s how they will help us contain the pandemic, revive the economy, and renew our commitment to justice and equity for all our people.

“Sen. Harris embodies the ideals of public service in the public interest. She’s a cross-generational consensus-builder with a solid record for getting things done. She knows firsthand the mounting costs and rising dangers of climate change. And she’s worked to make California the nation’s leader in the clean energy jobs we need to confront the climate crisis head on and build back better with a recovery that’s strong, durable and creates opportunity in every community in America.

“Kamala Harris will be a full partner in a government that puts our people first – and that’s what the Biden-Harris administration will do. Together, they are going to give our children the better, healthier, more just and more hopeful future they deserve.”
