NRDC Action Fund: Bipartisanship Avoids Shutdown

WASHINGTON (September 30, 2023) – Congress narrowly avoided a federal government shutdown tonight after Speaker Kevin McCarthy relented and introduced a bipartisan measure to fund the government for another six weeks while the appropriations process continues. The Senate also passed the bill and sent it to President Biden for his signature.

NRDC Action Fund President Manish Bapna issued the following statement:

“It can be done. Bipartisanship – and reason – can still prevail. This buys Congress precious time to agree to a budget that fully funds the essential services and vital programs a handful of GOP extremists put at risk. It’s time for Congress to reject the hostage-taking of a radical few and pass a budget that reflects what’s best for the country.”
