NRDC Action Fund Endorses Beasley for U.S. Senate

WASHINGTON (March 8, 2022) – The NRDC Action Fund, a national environmental organization, announced today it has endorsed Cheri Beasley in the North Carolina race for the U.S. Senate. Beasley, the former chief justice of the Supreme Court of North Carolina, is running for the seat now held by Sen. Richard Burr (R), who is retiring at the end of this term. She would be just the third African American woman ever elected to the Senate.

“North Carolinians deserve a senator who will finally go to work to protect the state’s cherished coastal communities from the dangers of offshore drilling and the threat from rising sea levels,” said Kevin S. Curtis, executive director of the NRDC Action Fund. “Cheri Beasley is committed to building a clean energy economy that benefits everyone, cuts costs for families, and creates high-quality jobs. She has vowed to fight industrial pollution that harms people’s health and hits low-income communities the hardest. We are excited about her candidacy and proud to lend our support.”

“North Carolina has felt the severe impact of this climate crisis, and it is past time for a leader in Washington to take action to address it. I am honored to receive the endorsement from the NRDC Action Fund,” said Cheri Beasley. “In the Senate, I will work to tackle the climate crisis and protect North Carolina’s beautiful coast and natural lands.”

The NRDC Action Fund is endorsing its largest-ever slate of House and Senate candidates this year and endorsing in gubernatorial races for the first time. NRDC Action Votes, an affiliated political action committee, helps to raise millions of dollars for these and other pro-environment candidates through GiveGreen.com, a donor platform that has already raised $10 million for pro-environment candidates this cycle.
