Sherry Boehlert was an Environmental Champion of the Highest Order

WASHINGTON (Sept. 21, 2021) – – Former Rep. Sherwood L. Boehlert (R-N.Y.), who represented central New York in Congress for nearly a quarter-century and served as a member of the NRDC Action Fund board of directors, died yesterday. Boehlert, who served on the House Science Committee throughout his congressional career, was a strong advocate for following the science on issues such as climate change. He was 84.

The following is a statement by Patricia Bauman, chair of the NRDC Action Fund board of directors:

‘’Sherry was a visionary lawmaker who rose above partisan politics when it came to protecting our environment and public health. Our air, our water, and our lands are cleaner in no small part due to his tireless efforts. Sherry embodied public service of the highest order, and we, and the world, are all the better for his work.’’
