NRDC Action Fund Endorses Murphy for N.J. Governor

WASHINGTON (July 29, 2021) – The NRDC Action Fund today announced its endorsement of Phil Murphy (D) for governor, praising him for his leadership in making New Jersey a leader in clean energy and climate resiliency. New Jersey Republican gubernatorial nominee Jack Ciattarelli has said he would pull New Jersey out of the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, a critical multi-state effort to reduce carbon pollution from power plants.

“Having experienced a superstorm like Hurricane Sandy, New Jerseyans know firsthand the devastation climate change can bring to their state, their homes, and their livelihoods. Because of Phil Murphy, New Jersey will see 100% clean energy by 2050 and seize a once-in-generation opportunity to create an equitable, clean jobs economy,” said Kevin S. Curtis, executive director of the NRDC Action Fund. “There’s no wiggle room on climate action. Jack Ciattarelli and his allies in the fossil fuel industry want to reverse that progress and take New Jersey backward, threatening the coast and putting workers at a disadvantage.”

“Clean energy is New Jersey’s future — it’s our path to combating climate change, creating good-paying jobs, and accelerating our transition to a green economy,” said Governor Murphy. “I’m proud to have earned the endorsement of the NRDC Action Fund, and look forward to our continued partnership in making New Jersey a stronger, fairer, and more resilient state for generations to come.”
